All Porcelain Crowns
All Porcelain Crowns have made all the difference in cosmetic dentistry. Traditionally, you had to have a metal “coping” placed directly against your tooth, with a layer of opaque and then a layer of porcelain placed on top of the metal to make it look toothlike. With the improvement in the strength of porcelain, we no longer need the metal in the vast majority of cases. The elimination of the metal allows light to pass through the porcelain just as it does a natural tooth. The result is a very lifelike appearance. You would be hardpressed to see any difference between a natural tooth and an all porcelain crown.
The junction of tooth and crown also become invisible. It was not that way with Porcelain Fused to Metal (PFM) crowns. You could always see where the crown stopped and the tooth began. That’s why dentists tried to hide this junction under your gumline. That’s okay, unless your gums receed, and now you have a dark line. All Porcelain Crowns eliminate the need to always prepare your tooth below the gumline. We’re saving more of your tooth, without compromising on cosmetics.

High-Tech Equipment
The fear and the pain associated with losing teeth is a real concern for most people. We understand that. That’s why we, at Tavares Dental Excellence, are strong advocates of techniques that minimize loss of valuable tooth structure.
The first is our high-tech, cavity detecting laser, DIAGNOdent. In the past, the only tools available to find cavities were an x-ray or a visual examination. Research suggests that decay goes undetected as much as 76% of the time using these traditional methods. This cutting edge technology allows us to PAINLESSLY detect tooth decay much earlier. We can save as much of a healthy tooth before too much of it has been destroyed by decay.

Another tool we have at our finger tips is CEREC, a Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacture (CAD/CAM) device. This technology allows us to save as much of the tooth as possible. In just ONE visit, we create and mill a bio-compatible porcelain restoration to replace the missing, broken or decayed portion of your tooth. You are spared the inconveniences of wearing a temporary and coming in for additional appointments. One visit crowns!
Finally, the introduction of Tekscan into our practice has made it easier to detect and treat bite (occlusion) problems. An uneven bite can cause tooth sensitivity, loose teeth and pain or clicking in your jaw joints. By simply biting on a small sensor, Tekscan, a computerized bite analysis device, takes a small movie of your bite. With this information we can correct and balance your bite.
